City of Liberty Lake Parks & Recreation Master Plan
Role: Lead Graphic Designer
Scope: Visual Identity • Public Engagement • Publication Design • Information Design
Building on the City of Liberty Lake's established Comprehensive Plan branding, I developed a visual identity and communication toolkit for its Parks & Recreation Master Plan. I refined the existing color system for improved accessibility, shifted the palette toward its greens to distinguish the Parks & Recreation initiative, and extended the brand across a large and varied public engagement campaign. From farmer's market pop-ups and youth activities to interactive boards, surveys, flyers, and evolving report templates, the system kept a high volume of materials cohesive while giving each piece its own visual character.
What I Contributed:
Visual identity • Public engagement materials • Publication design • Information design • Templates • Accessible design
Refining the Brand
Building from the City's established Comprehensive Plan branding, I refined the visual system for the Parks & Recreation initiative, adjusting elements of the existing color palette to improve accessibility while placing greater emphasis on its greens. I also developed parallel InDesign and Word templates for the evolving plan, keeping the two formats visually aligned while giving the project team flexibility as the final publication format took shape. Along the way, I experimented with Word's built-in icons and other design tools to bring the visual language into a format that could remain both polished and practical for the client.
Engaging Audiences
With a large number of public engagement events and materials to support, consistency was important—but so was keeping each piece from feeling like a repeat of the last. I varied layouts, orientations, and color combinations across interactive boards, flyers, surveys, and activities, using details like a floral border to make materials feel more approachable to younger audiences. From farmer's market pop-ups and open houses to youth engagement at local parks, the resulting toolkit gave each event its own visual character while keeping the larger campaign connected.
Bringing It Together
The final plan brought together months of community engagement, planning, and design into a cohesive publication. As content and layouts evolved, I continued building the report piece by piece while maintaining consistency across the InDesign and Word templates. The resulting document carried the established visual language from early outreach through the final plan, balancing dense planning content with accessible layouts, visual hierarchy, and a polished presentation.
